You Cannot Out Train a Bad Diet

So, your active every day and you love to work out, doing strength training, cardio or HIIT. If your diet is garbage, it will either amount to nothing, or you won't see enough results to warrant all that hard work. It's easy to over estimate how many kilojoules we burn through exercise and under estimate the number that we eat.
The best way for me to get an honest look at a client's diet is for them to keep a 7-day food diary and symptom/feeling diary. I suggest you give it a try, by writing down everything that you eat from waking to sleep (including alcohol). Write down if you get any symptoms from that meal, e.g. headache, bloating etc or how you were feeling at the time, e.g. tired, happy, angry. No cheating, be honest with yourself.
I myself am going to do this too! Today I jumped on the scales, I don’t do this very often, but for the last few weeks I have felt that my clothes have felt different, so I knew I needed to jump on. The scales showed me what I thought might be the case, and that is that I am heavier than I have been for a while. I am writing this openly for all to see, to let you all know that even personal trainers and nutritionists can have weight creep up on them too. I get busy and stressed like everyone else and don’t always eat the way I should. A lot of homemade baked goods come into my everyday life and I find I am turning back to old habits of relying on sweet treats to get me by.
Winter is also a hard time for some people to maintain their weight. We don’t want to be eating salads and drinking veggie juices every day. We want comfort food, but that can also mean healthy foods, such as vegetable soups or broths, casseroles and baked vegetables.
While regular exercise is critically important to all aspects of health, when it comes to weight loss, healthy eating is key. Aim to consume fewer kilojoules than you expend, so at the end of every week you're in a kilojoule deficit. The healthiest, most sustainable way to be in a deficit is to eat a highly nutritious wholefood diet, plus burn kilojoules through regular exercise. It may not be what you want to hear, but it is the truth!
By stopping, taking note, taking a few deep breaths, I can get myself back on track, and so can you.
